A love story should never end like this. Acid attack victim Katie Piper, who had acid thrown on her face by a lover she'd met on the internet, said she was stripped of her identity, her dreams and, most shocking, her face.

The brave survivor is now coming forward and baring her name in a move towards courage against her situation.

A lover met on Facebook and now a life full of baby steps towards normal eating and wearing a plastic mask.

"I was so embarrassed that people had seen me like this. I wanted to tear the whole thing off and make it go away," Piper said of her face post-attack in an interview with the Daily Mail. "There was nothing about me that I recognised. My identity as I knew it had gone."

Katie, now 26-years-old, is planning to air her story in a television documentary in the UK, titled, My Beautiful Face on Channel 4 and produced by Mentorn, on October 29 at 9pm.

After the attack, Katie was met with undying support for their once petite model daughter.

"I couldn’t see a way back for her," mother Diane told the news. "I couldn’t imagine what sort of future she’d have. Everything she’d hoped for and dreamed of depended on her face and it was gone. The thing that upset me most was when she wrote, “Kill me'."

Now, though, Katie has made a turnaround, not only physically but mentally in believing she can see herself through.

"Now," Piper says. "I realize my life before was so superficial. I used to refuse to go out if I had a spot on my face. Now I wish a spot was all I had to worry about. There are people who point and stare. One man even knocked my sun hat off and laughed at me. Those times hurt, but I won’t let them get me down."

She added, "I’d like to be able to have a husband and family one day. I can’t live a life of regret."
