Fashion Icons Of A Past Generation
Their Influence On Fashion Today

Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn
Fashion throughout the decades has transitioned in appropriation for the birth of each new generation. There are those who's influence on the fashion world has made them icons over the decades, and memorable for how they changed the way women dress today.

Audrey Hepburn

Audrey's keen eye for fashion led to a great influence in the age of her generation. Her display of a tasteful and classic style did not go unnoticed. One of her major motion pictures that many women today are well versed in is Breakfast At Tiffany's, creating the trend of a simple black dress that is now used as a staple for any party or function. Audrey kept an eye out for what was becoming on her, not bowing under any fashions that did not suit her tall and thin frame. In turn, her style was quite refined and the simplicity in which she approached fashion gave the impression that wearing gaudy jewels and diamonds was not to be constantly admired.

Audrey dressed in a delicate manner, small ballet flats and capri pants that soon became her well known default for casual wear. She injected a sense or realism into her wardrobe that was branded into the minds of women across the nation, making her iconic fashion much more impressionable and more importantly, relate-able.

Twiggy
Twiggy

Twiggy

Born Lesley Hornby, to say that she is photogenic is being absent in appropriate credit and justice. In her early years of modeling she was able to effortlessly portray a part of the 60's that wasn't easy to do. She modeled the mod style, a mixture of bright colors and geometric shapes. She was best known for her ability to model boyish fashion, her short pixie haircut accentuating her long lashes and doe eyes. But Twiggy wasn't around for just her looks; she was never afraid to speak her mind, especially when it came to fashion, but maintained an extraordinary sense of professionalism. As a former model and icon, she still influences fashion and modeling today by being a judge on Americas Next Top Model, hosted by Tyra Banks, which is now in its 12th cycle.

Edie Sedgwick
Edie Sedgwick
Edie Sedgwick

An American actress and socialite, Edie stood out and has been remembered most by her influence on fashion and as a muse to Andy Warhol. Edie was born in Santa Barbara, California and had an attitude of individuality that was blatant to anyone who came across her. She created fashion in the make of her personality; her wardrobe would at times be outrageous and simplistic simultaneously, wearing only tights and a loose sweater. She was like nothing anyone had ever encountered and the public was infatuated with her. A prominent feature in her style was thick black eye liner that contrasted with her light complexion and ostentatious chandelier earrings. She was in the era of the swinging 60's and Edie Sedgwick most definitely dressed the part.

But fashion at the very heart of it, is more than just pieces of fabric strung together to create a color combination that appeals to the eye. Fashion is the personality and expression of those who have created it. The personality of the people who have made fashion what it is today. Fashion of the past that carries its way into the present is the kind of fashion that lasts forever.
