The Legend of Jane Fonda
A World of Her Own Without Rules

AND Magazine image
As we all remember Jane Fonda when she became one of the biggest icon's in American History, model, actress, activist, and philanthropist. Now 73 years old, this bright – eyed adventure born Sagittarius took on a new spin off into the world of Jazzercise, her trademark of the beginning of success. Though beginning as a fashion model, and stage actress icon from the Big Apple in the 1970's, she quickly transitioned over to being a international sensation on the silver screen by the 1980's. After she graced the cover of Vogue twice that set her career off into another plateau. Known for her starring roles as “On Golden Pond”, “Agnes of God”, and recently “Monster-in-Law”.

Born into the legendary Fonda dynasty, daughter of Henry Fonda, gave her the status and political power she needed to catapult to the top and breakthrough the impossible Hollywood system where most fail. Its is said that over 30,000 starlets move to LA every month in hopes of the American dream, but over 70% fail and return home within the first year.

AND Magazine image
This definitely was not the case with Jane Fonda. She conquered the system with class, determination, and a knack for show business. Born into a success family gave her the money and business smarts to succeed where most lack. As she has never been afraid of bold cynicism, she clearly confesses that “working in Hollywood does give one a certain expertise in the field of prostitution.” She open argues against the Hollywood system of the discrimination of women over 40 from being lead actresses. She was one of very few actresses as Katherine Hepburn and Betty Davis to achieve major movie success past the age of 40, proving them wrong.

Standing the test of time, racing against the clock in show business, it is said that most entertainers that make it at all are less than 1% success rate and have about a 10 year life span. Jane Fonda not only beats the system, she outlives the typical show business shelf life of 10 years by decades of continual success catapulting her into a legend.

She stunned the audience in her open-back strapless Vera Wang gown in light beige taffeta caressed to the floor with her sophisticated short haircut, and a pair of matching open fingered evening gloves to finished off her unmatched fashion statement back in 2000.

Although a legendary actress, and model, she was never shy to dip her nib into politics, she conveys a strong message to American Society of her dominant view on the corrupted American political system washed down the tubes of time and fervor.

I, a Socialist, think we should strive toward a Socialist society, all the way to Communism.
Jane Fonda was a star before she became a political activist. After he cross with several Vietnam vets, she could never fathom as to why people were being brutally murdered half a world away around the globe. It then inspired her to become an anti-war activist for the leftist cause and then eventually leading her into desegregation, women's rights, and environmental issues. She was known for her famous line in her controversial view in politics,

If you understood what communism was, you would hope you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist.
After all her controversy and wild life experiences, she now considers herself a devout born again Christian and a loyal philanthropist. She continues to speak boldly about her political views.

She currently has criticized America's war of Iraq, and interjected in the war against Kenyan girls from mutilation. Her constant campaigns keep her abreast as to what is happening in the world and how she interject to make a better life for someone lest fortunate.

EDITOR SIDE NOTE:

Israeli–Palestinian conflict

In December 2002 Fonda visited Israel and the West Bank as part of a tour focusing on stopping violence against women. She demonstrated with Women in Black against Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip outside the residence of Israel's Prime Minister. She later visited Jewish and Arab doctors and patients at a Jerusalem hospital, followed by visits to Ramallah to see a physical rehabilitation centre, and a Palestinian refugee camp. Fonda was criticized by right-wing Israelis, and heckled by members of Women for Israel's Tomorrow as she arrived for a meeting with leading Israeli feminists.

In September 2009 Fonda was one of over fifty signatories to a letter protesting the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival's presentation of ten films about the Israeli city Tel Aviv. The protest letter said that the spotlight on Tel Aviv was part of "the Israeli propaganda machine" because it was supported in part by funding from the Israeli government and had been described by the Israeli Consul General Amir Gissin as being part of a "Brand Israel" campaign intended to draw attention away from Israel's conflict with the Palestinians.

Other signers included actor Danny Glover, musician David Byrne, journalist John Pilger, and authors Alice Walker, Naomi Klein and Howard Zinn.

Gracing the cover of Vogue put her on another plateau

Oscar-winning director Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center stated that "People who support letters like this are people who do not support a two-state solution. By calling into question the legitimacy of Tel Aviv, they are supporting a one-state solution, which means the destruction of the State of Israel." Hier continued saying that "it is clear that the script [the protesters] are reading from might as well have been written by Hamas."

Jane Fonda, in a posting on Huffington Post, says that she now regrets some of the language used in the original protest letter and how it "was perhaps too easily misunderstood. It certainly has been wildly distorted. Contrary to the lies that have been circulated, the protest letter was not demonizing Israeli films and filmmakers." She continued writing "the greatest 're-branding' of Israel would be to celebrate that country's long standing, courageous and robust peace movement by helping to end the blockade of Gaza through negotiations with all parties to the conflict, and by stopping the expansion of West Bank settlements. That's the way to show Israel's commitment to peace, not a PR campaign. There will be no two-state solution unless this happens."

Fonda emphasized that she, "in no way, support the destruction of Israel. I am for the two-state solution. I have been to Israel many times and love the country and its people."

Several prominent Atlanta Jews subsequently signed a letter to the Huffington Post rejecting the vilification of Fonda, who they described as "a strong supporter and friend of Israel".

Jane Fonda's Words of Politics and Passion This volume collects Jane Fonda's most stirring public statements from 1970 through 2005, in speeches, interviews, and articles from more than 30 years of tireless campaigning against war and militarism, and on behalf of women's rights, women's health, feminism, and the environment.
