When most people discuss their political party affiliation, presidents and other prominent political figures are always included. But do people actually ever take the time to understand what their party stands for or what its political ideal is? Most Americans probably can't name some of the political ideals of their party and most likely joined their current party because it was what their parents were affiliated with. So what are some reasons to "jump ship" to another party?

First, political parties change. This is a fact that most people fail to realize. The Republican party is not the same as it was over a hundred years ago, neither is the Democratic party. You should do more research on your party and really think about whether it upholds your stance on how the government should be ran.

Second, people who think that their political party is "the Gospel" should really have a reality check. This is a major problem with Americans when it comes to politics. They believe that their party, and their party alone, is the key to saving America. It's important for Americans to become more aware and educate themselves in what other parties have to offer. You can't very well dispute another political party for their ideals if you don't know the other parties' ideals.

The third reason to switch parties is because of social and economic change. America's society and

Four reasons to switch-hit.
economy has changed throughout the years and like mentioned before so has political parties as a result of this. If a person's political party can no longer uphold what an individual wants for their life and their country then it is time to make a switch. An example of this is if an individuals financial state has gotten incredibly stronger or incredibly weaker, that individual's political party ideals might not fit their current situation, and might even find refuge in the ideals of another party.

The fourth and most important reason to switch is if you are voting for a person just because they have the same political affiliation as you, for goodness sake switch! Even if it's a temporary switch, a person should never give up on their ideals and stance on life and vote for a person just because someone is affiliated with their political party. And you never know, if you do switch you might just find out some things about yourself that you never realized before.
