President Obama is not perfect, like all women and men; he is flawed, terribly at times. But one aspect President Obama seems perfect in, is the ability to connect deep inside one's heart and soul during times of tragedy, something he has unfortunately had to show us four times now over his presidency.
The past couple days of President Obama consoling the shattered lives in Connecticut due to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings shook me emotionally, and I'm sure I was not the only one. I'm not sure if his presence in Connecticut could ever begin to help the families dealing with the loss of a loved one, but it sure has helped me deal with this tragedy on an emotional level.
Seeing our President share something we all have in common, the unity of family and the togetherness this human experience is all about, was soul striking. President Obama was brave enough to expose his raw emotions, when he knows half the country will ridicule and question his sincerity; I thought his emotional address to our nation was down right impressive. As President of the United States, you probably meet more people than you could ever remember, and that alone could cause you to lose touch with your heart and soul, as people become issues and problems to deal with. I don't see this occurring with President Obama, I see the opposite occurring, as he surely begins to realize his legacy will be imperfect, but can still be redeemed over the next four years, and can start by doing what he does best, connecting with ordinary people.
A lot of critics and pundits will politicize the events that occurred at that elementary school in Connecticut, even the President eventually will, but his response to this tragedy and all the tragedies President Obama has dealt with so far, show him to be a decent man, still firmly connected to his soul.
