Pick the true stories-
1) Richard Branson once leapt over a balustrade on the 14th floor of a Portugese hotel, because I told him to (the proverbial, beginning with an F), Off! At a gathering of the Virgin clans - we all worked together in the early 90s - I sang for him and he advised me to 'stay with the day job.' The guys began to peel off his fingers as I prayed to a God I am unsure of, to save his life. Like it was needed.
I have vertigo - he loves clowning around on balloons. Go figure. Oh, I was PA to his brother in law, the MD of Virgin Vision, at the time.
2) I once sang the theme from Casablanca... ('You must remember this....'), drunk on Guinness and Champagne, in the art deco Martinez Hotel which fronts onto the famous coissette in Cannes. A beautiful French man handed me a rose. I was in love. With myself. I still am - well, not really. Age has knocked off a few callow edges. And let's face it - I was truly in love with the French man.
3) Attending the 'Vicom' festival in Cannes (not Film, but TV and Video) I won the 'Haiku' competition that was hastily organized by bristling young British broadcasters. 'Write about the festival in 5,7,5 time!' We were told. The English Tourist Board judged it. I won! (Did I just tell you that?) - Yippee!! Or something equally heatfelt, and Japanese.
No-one cries in Cannes,
Sapphire eyes so red with wine,
I weep when sober.
Well OK - all three stories are true. Did you guess? And I am dead nice, really, not up myself.
Hi! I love America. And AND magazine - and that last bit was not tautology.
I also truly, madly, deeply love writing. Writing is what I do.
