New York City is best-selling author Victoria Medina’s home town. From the pulsing rhythm of the conga drums that played at night in her neighborhood, to the pulsing rhythms of the hectic beat that moves New Yorkers at lightning speed, always trying to reinvent the New York minute, this is Victoria’s home, and this is where her adventurous and artistic spirit began.
Reading and writing was a gift her parents gave to her at a very early age. Victoria was barely four when her mother proudly marched her into the book mobile to write her own name and take out her first book. Her father, being one of the most amazingly intelligent and erudite people she has ever met, was a voracious reader. He could speak to anyone about history, music, politics, and art from the beginning of time to the present. Their conversations were wonderful discussions and debates. Going to an art museum was a walk through time as her father would share the history and the politics that lay behind the work they were viewing.
This of course is where Victoria’s love affair with art, history and politics began. She believes that it is through an understanding of history that we can navigate the political issues of the day because they are usually interrelated and quite fascinating. Perhaps this is where the seed for writing took place, because it wasn’t long before she would write poems, short stories and eventually books.
In addition, Victoria was only six years old when she was handed a camera, and so along with writing she began looking through the lens to document the spirit of life around her. She was still not done, however. Like most true artists Victoria was never one to be fully satisfied, and so it was that her path also led her to the stage, and ever since her passion for performing, writing and photography has shaped her life.
This ultimately led her to attending both Lehman College in New York and Marymount University London Center in the UK, where she used her photographic skills to shoot head shots and live events while studying acting, writing and theater with the illustrious faculty of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (“RADA”) and The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (“LAMDA”), graduating with a degree in Theater and Music.
Her adventurous spirit then inspired her to travel, and she has visited cities throughout Europe, the United States and Canada, performing in a variety of theater and stand-up comedy productions while also photographing individual and family portraits, music and dramatic performances, movie industry events, celebrities, landscapes, architecture, nature, and creating fine art prints. In 2008 she opened her on-line art gallery, Numina Images Gallery, and in 2009 she had her first successful live exhibition in New York City featuring her American Spirit exhibit.
Marrying her visual and writing talents under one roof she immediately began to publish her own blog, followed by her first photographic art book, One Nation, One Mission, One Promise - the continuing journey of fulfilling the promises made on July 4, 1776, and recently celebrated becoming a best-selling author.
Here is some of the praise her book has received:
One Nation, One Mission, One Promise by Victoria Medina is an artistic achievement. Victoria has created gorgeous photographic images and blends her visual communication with eloquent poetry and prose. Her book is a true work of art.
- Steve Harrison, co-founder Million Dollar Author Club and publisher of Radio-TV Interview Report
Few artists have the talent to create both visual images and words that combine to lift the spirit, but your impressive photographic art book One Nation, One Mission, One Promise has done just that. Your unique visual images combined with insightful poetry and prose inspires everyone to look at our history with fresh eyes.
- Geoffrey R. Berwind, Artistic Director, Historic Philadelphia, Inc.
Should leave even the most cynical with a greater appreciation for this incredible country that we are so lucky to live in. Ms. Medina has taken the most enduring documents in our Nation's history and blended them with her own writing to produce a work possessed with idealism and hope.
- Taryn Hammond
Victoria does not prescribe to any one political party. She believes it is always about balance, and each side will always try to balance the other. It is a constant pendulum that will swing throughout time with the writers and the artists pushing humanity forward, always seeing what we can be if only we get out of our own way.
