Having graduated college with a degree in biology, no interest in grad school, and no interest in a science career, Fraser Sherman decided he’d try writing.
It turned out he liked it. And he was even reasonably good at it. Over the next couple of decades, he sold articles to Newsweek, The Writer, Dragon Magazine (yes he played D&D. Want to make something out of it?), Air & Space and more specialized markets such as Painting and Wallcovering and Gulf Coast Condo Owner).
And because he wanted to use his skills to make the world a better place, he also wrote about politics. Liberal by philosophy and living a very conservative northwest Florida community, Fraser began by replying to letters in the local paper that asserted women were unfit for anything but motherhood, Christianity should be the law of the land and anyone who wasn’t a Republican was probably a Communist pedophile Satan-worshipper.
In 2000, after juggling writing and assorted day jobs for years, he finally found the opportunity to write full time, as a reporter for Northwest Florida’s Destin Log newspaper. He spent the following decade actually working more than full time, as he sold fantasy short stories to Realms of Fantasy, Tales of the Talisman, and Allegory, among others. He also graduated from letters to the editor to a regular column in the paper.
In 2010, Fraser moved from Florida to Durham North Carolina to live with his wife-to-be (whom he married in 2011). He’s now writing full-time and looking forward to contributing to AND Magazine.
